Jacob Zuma Scandals
Born in South Africa’s rural region of Nkanda, Jacob Zuma became involved in politics as an anti-apartheid, left-wing activist. During his two presidential terms, he hoped to implement structural reforms such as land expropriation and accessible higher education.
His government was plagued with controversies, especially during his second term (2014-2018). Besides benefiting from state expenditure to upgrade his Nkandla homestead, it was discovered that Zuma had secret economic agreements with the influential Gupta business family, which had appointed his finance ministers.
