In 1810, Philippe Henri invented canned food and gave the patent to Sir Henry Wickham, who could travel to South America and deplete the continent of rubber thanks to it. Because of that, Americans tried to create synthetic rubber, eventually discovering that combining it with gasoline made up napalm.
