A 19th-century samurai (1865)
We’ve all seen films about the deadly samurai. These were hereditary members of the Japanese warrior caste. As such, they had several privileges, which included the right to carry two swords. By the 1870s, only 5% of the Japanese population were samurai.
The caste was officially abolished in that decade, so you’re looking at one of the last samurai ever. How wild is that? If you saw this man in a dark alleyway, you’d be right to fear for your life. In the 19th century, the merciless warriors were replaced by modern militaries.
