The backstage of a historical speech (1963)
There have been many memorable speeches throughout history, but few have been quoted as much as Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream.” Though it’s impossible to know how many people witnessed this historical moment, it’s believed that the civil rights activist spoke to more than 200,000 people.
This photo helps you appreciate that ocean of people better. The purpose of the event, called March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was to advocate for African Americans’ civil and economic rights. There, MLK used his outstanding oratory skills to call for an end to racism.
