In the late 70s, the famous singer-songwriter Elvis Costello decided to speak up and address a controversial subject when he composed “Let Him Dangle,” a song inspired by the murder trial of Derek Bentley.

In the early 50s, 19-year-old Derek Bentley was accused of having shot a police officer dead and was sentenced to death. Costello was clearly annoyed by the event, so he wrote what now stands as the foremost anthem against capital punishment.
