These Regular People Changed History With Their Brave Actions

Equal pay is a fundamental right and is essential for creating a fair workplace. In the U.S., the National Women’s Trade Union began advocating for it in the early 20th century. But it wasn’t until the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was passed that federal law began protecting women’s rights.

For this to happen, Lilly Ledbetter had to sue the multinational company Goodyear Tire for paying her less than her male coworkers. The lawsuit eventually reached the hands of a Supreme Court judge. Though they didn’t rule in her favor, Congress passed the Fair Pay Act in 2009.
