These Regular People Changed History With Their Brave Actions

Rosa Parks

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, and took a seat to rest her legs. The driver told her to give up her seat for a white passenger and go to the back. When Parks rejected his order, she was arrested for civil disobedience.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a critical moment for the civil rights movement. After Parks was arrested, activists stopped using buses to ask for social justice and put an end to the city’s racial segregation policy. After the 381 days-long protests, the Supreme Court ruled segregation on public buses unconstitutional.
