Bullfighting originated in Spain in 711 AD as a way to honor King Alfonso VIII. This controversial sport, now banned almost everywhere in the world, was exported to Mexico with the Spanish colonization. Surprisingly, some of its centuries-old rings are still standing today.

Opened in 1989, the Hotel Quinta Real Zacatecas is the only ring-turned-hotel in the globe. Back in the 19th century, people would buy a ticket to see famous matadors perform their ruthless acts. Why don’t you walk through the old brick corridors and enjoy a drink at the candlelit Botarel Bar?
